DOWNTOWN ­ WILTON MANORS. The curious and adventurous are likely to be found in this restaurant, where the exotic food goes well with margaritas or other mixed drinks, most of which feature a variety of specialty tequilas. Fare includes modern Southwestern dishes that incorporate the exotic influences of Asian, Central American and South American cookery, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting.

LAS OLAS. Step through the revolving doorway, and it's evident this steakhouse aims to be the biggest and best. The swanky bar features hardwood floors, a black curved countertop and stools, and the impressive dining room is filled with tables that accommodate large and small groups. On the periphery of the room, the abundant salad bar offers a variety of specialty salads such as bean, potato, Caesar and soy, and side items might include mashed potatoes, tabbouleh, soups, cold cuts, fruits and veggies. Top sirloin, lamb, chicken wings, ribs and several cuts of beef highlight the main dishes.

POMPANO BEACH. Cafe Maxx is known for its exquisite menu of Floridian specialties. The restaurant features a fusion of flavors, each served up with an artistic attitude. Innovative combinations include Norwegian salmon, Florida black grouper, or stuffed veal chops. Some entrées also pack a bit of an accent ­ Hunan BBQ grilled quail (on Asian noodle cake and stir fry vegetable, red chili oil) or crispy yucca-scallion Florida grouper (with vanilla rum butter, sweet mash, asparagus & Parisienne vegetables). Consistently awarded as one of the top restaurants in the region, with excellent service and a great wine list. Upscale casual attire. Reservations highly recommended.

NORTH FORT LAUDERDALE. Delicious Mexican fare is cooked Florida-style and served in a casual diner-like setting. Authentic soft tacos, burritos and salads are made to order with refried beans or with the healthier choice of black beans. Wonderful vegetable sides are available as well as tasty desserts. Dine outside on the patio or inside on a rustic wooden bench. You won't be disappointed!

LAUDERDALE-BY-THE-SEA. Family owned and operated, Eduardo De San Angel serves authentic, upscale Mexican cuisine. Favorite starters include shrimp empanadas, and Achiote-marinated pork loin between grilled cactus leaves. Follow with an almond and thyme crusted yellowtail fillet, grilled lamb chops with smoked chipotle and green tomatillo sauces, or chicken mole poblano. The traditional Mexican décor is warm and inviting, yet classy enough for special occasions.
